Emancipation proclamation?

I heard that one of the triumph of Civil war was that slaves were freed by Emancipation proclamation.... but I have no idea what emancipation proclamation.. so can anyone explain what it is?

i thik this was a treaty that was offered by lincoln during the civil war to free slaves in the south if they were willing to fight for the north/ join the union.

at first it was only offered to slaves who already escaped to the north.
