I guess it means ''HAVING HEART''--which means the fortitude and strength to give it all they got. A harmless gesture to express victory---in a nice way. The gorilla pounding of the chest is a stupid idiotic display---like they are soooo great. Give me a break!!!
Shows dominance. The chest is a symbol of strength and so when you beat on your chest you are showing how strong you are. When you win a contest then you are stronger, faster, or smarter then the other person so you beat your chest in victory!
